The body of this wind chime is a large bamboo cylinder — and the cylinder itself is the art. Burned and painted directly onto the surface is a tribal face: bold brows, expressive eyes, wide teeth, wavy lines running down the neck, the whole thing drawn with the confident line of someone who has made this mark a thousand times and knows exactly where each stroke belongs. Below the cylinder, bamboo tube clappers hang in a cluster, also striped in the same black pattern, so the motif continues into the sound-making parts of the piece. Even the wooden clapper at the bottom carries a small painted design.
This is the most confrontational piece in the wind chime range. The face watches. It is not decorative in the passive sense — it occupies a window or doorway the way a guardian figure occupies a temple entrance. Tiki carvings, tribal masks, and spirit faces in hanging form have been used across Oceanic, African, and Southeast Asian cultures not as art objects but as threshold guardians — things placed at the point where inside meets outside, to manage what passes through.
Whether you hold that intention or simply find the piece striking, the effect is the same: it changes the energy of the space it hangs in. Wind moves the tubes. The face watches whatever enters.
In Shaman's framework: Wood element (bamboo, the hollow vessel) + Air element (wind, the activating force). The face adds an Earth resonance — stability, presence, the grounded authority of something ancient.
Element: Wood · Air · Earth
Energy: Protection · Presence · Threshold Energy
Origin: Hand-carved and painted bamboo — handcrafted, curated in Kathmandu
Care: For indoor or sheltered outdoor use. The painted design is applied directly to the bamboo surface — avoid moisture and prolonged sunlight which can fade the markings. Wipe gently with a dry cloth.
