Large, circular, densely handworked — these wall medallions are built from hundreds of individual pieces placed by hand onto a woven base. The construction is the same across both variants: brown seed beads packed tight across the surface, cowrie shells arranged in deliberate geometric formations, larger cowrie shells lining the outer border. What changes is the pattern, and the pattern changes everything.
The Moon Pattern variant organises cowrie shells into four half-dome formations at the compass points — north, south, east, west — with a full circle of cowries at the centre. The effect reads as lunar: the phases of the moon mapped onto a single disc, each dome a different moment in the cycle. It is a piece about time, about rhythm, about the way things return.
The Concentric Circle variant is more architectural. Rings of white seed beads alternate with rings of brown, moving outward from a central cowrie cluster in a series of clean concentric bands. Cowrie accents punctuate the pattern at regular intervals. The effect is a mandala — the kind of radial geometry that appears in Buddhist thangkas, Islamic tilework, and tribal art from every continent that has ever looked for order in a circle. Both are large — the kind of piece that anchors a wall rather than decorating it. Both carry cowrie shells, one of the oldest currencies and protective symbols in human history, used across Asia, Africa, and the Pacific as amulets against harm and bringers of abundance.
In Shaman's framework, this is a Water and Earth piece simultaneously — shell from the ocean (Water) arranged on a woven earth-material base (Earth). A grounding piece with oceanic energy. For entryways, living rooms, or any wall that currently has nothing to say.
Element: Water · Earth
